Portafrutta :: Doodle

The Portafrutta, created by 35 individual forms was designed to be a fruit plate rather than a fruit bowl. The horizontal surfaces of the tray with its divided sections suggest and allow different fruit to be placed strategically around the tray. This avoids the bruising of fruit which often occours when pieces of fruit are piled on top of each other in a bowl. Each piece of fruit has it’s seperate space, giving the fruit the importance it deserves.

Made in cherry wood the tray is realized with laser cutting technology.

BRAD ASCALON

Spindle Table
Product Type :: Occasional Table
Year: 2008 Manufacturer :: Ligne Roset
Materials :: Glass, Lacquered Wood

Born outside of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (USA), Brad Ascalon was immersed in a world of art and design. His grandfather was a Hungarian-born sculptor and noted industrial designer. His father is the founder and principal of Ascalon Studios Inc., an art and design firm dedicated to the creation of large-scale artwork and furnishings that can be found throughout North America.

With his main focus on furniture design, Ascalon received his Masters’ degree from Pratt Institute’s department of Industrial Design in 2005. While working towards his degree at Pratt Institute, Ascalon held a number of design internships, including one at the design studio of Karim Rashid. That same year, Ascalon was selected by Wallpaper* Magazine as one of the world’s “Ten Most Wanted” up and coming designers (July/August 2005).

Upon obtaining his degree, Ascalon immediately opened his own design studio when he acquired his first client, the cosmetics giant, L’Oreal. Since then, Ascalon continues to develop product and packaging designs for a wide range of companies and industries, while continuing to apply most of his energy and passion towards furniture. In 2007, Ascalon’s work made its first appearance at Milan’s Salone Internazionale del Mobile, with the Italian manufacturer, Sintesi, as well as at the ICFF (International Contemporary Furniture Fair) in New York City. There Ascalon unveiled a new seating collection as part of the ICFF Bernhardt Studio Design Exhibition, a high-profile juried competition that promotes emerging furniture designers from around the world. Most recently, Ascalon has completed his first project, an occasional table, for Ligne Roset’s 2008 collection.

TNTable produced by Pulpo :: Studio Mango

A table that seems to be about to explode! When Pulpo requested for new designs in their sheet metal product range we didn't want to end up in the cliche of slapping some flowers and butterflies on the metal. We chose to take a different direction, create furniture which seems to be about to self destruct. Taking an iconic and old fashioned cartoonesc bomb gave a wonderfull 3d effect while flowing over the surface of the table. Made out of laser cut sheet metal with a powder coat finish. Requests / orders can be made through us.

Studio Mango

On a visit to the European florist competition in Brussels we spoke to some of the winning flower decorating artist and told them we worked in the field of product design.

Almost immediately the complaints started about the fact that all flower vases were the same, the only differences were that every season they had different prints on them.
The florists challenged us to make some designs for flowers which enabled them and all other people to "play" more with flowers. This was the start of the Studio Mango vase collection which is now sold in over 60 countries in the world and ever expanded.

For any info, prices or orders we can be contacted on :: info (at) studiomango.nl
