AvroKO’s Furniture Line “The Transport Series”

The most recent addition to AvroKO’s unique repertoire is a furniture line that is inspired by early 20th century motorcar and motorcycle forms.

Entitled “The Transport Series”, the line includes pieces such as the Stanhope Light, the Rollie Stool, the Percy Maxim Chair and Ottoman, the Stoddard Table, and the Wallace Storage Unit (dog bed).

AvroKO’s references for the furniture were derived from various vehicles that were built before assembly lines and mass production became the norm. These types of motor vehicles, created in small mechanical shops and barns throughout the country, often included a strange hybrid of stagecoach details and modernized utility driven metal work. Early motorcycle design continued the trend with saddle-like forms for the seating but also included restructured bicycle parts. Although AvroKO’s furniture line is thoroughly modern, the pieces were designed applying details derived from these distinct, classic features.

The furniture available in Manhattan at Sublime (American Design) on 26 Varick, Tribeca 212-941-8888.

”LUISA” chaiselounge :: GAM plus FRATESI

”…like at grandmothers home – all her best furniture are always covered in plastic so they don’t get dirty.”

Inside out – a non typical experience of the materials; to have the warm soft material, that usual would be in contact with the body, is here closed in between two layers of transparent acrylic. As well the flower-motifs are closed inside the acrylic, so you have the visual contact with the softness and the decoration – You can see but not touch…With this concept we have made a collection of prototypes of stools/tables and chaise lounge. You can have two different principles; the decoration can be done as a print on the acrylic, like this creating coloured reflections on the side of the furniture; otherwise cutting out the pattern directly in the felt, obtaining transparency in the object. As a curious detail the felt is coming out from the acrylic, turned and fastened as a pillow for the head.
