July - Success Sofa Circle :: Knoll

UN Studio's sofa design for Circle was presented by Knoll at the Milan fair in April. Circle was inspired by the design of the Mercedes-Benz Museum. The cooperation with Walter Knoll saw the powerful sculpture transformed into a room-shaping, desirable piece of furniture.

The playful Sumo chair is sure to attract attention at any setting indoors or outdoors. Sumo chair calls out to the child within the user with its unique geometry. Made of rotationally-molded polyethylene, the wide body of the chair allows for lounging and can sit on most even surfaces from grass to gravel to rugs. The transverse character of Sumo is the result of the possibility of placing the chairs side by side, thus forming a system ideal for waiting halls and hotel reception areas. Weather resistant and UV protected, Sumo chair can be left outdoors year round without worry of deterioration.

AvroKO’s Furniture Line “The Transport Series”

The most recent addition to AvroKO’s unique repertoire is a furniture line that is inspired by early 20th century motorcar and motorcycle forms.

Entitled “The Transport Series”, the line includes pieces such as the Stanhope Light, the Rollie Stool, the Percy Maxim Chair and Ottoman, the Stoddard Table, and the Wallace Storage Unit (dog bed).

AvroKO’s references for the furniture were derived from various vehicles that were built before assembly lines and mass production became the norm. These types of motor vehicles, created in small mechanical shops and barns throughout the country, often included a strange hybrid of stagecoach details and modernized utility driven metal work. Early motorcycle design continued the trend with saddle-like forms for the seating but also included restructured bicycle parts. Although AvroKO’s furniture line is thoroughly modern, the pieces were designed applying details derived from these distinct, classic features.

The furniture available in Manhattan at Sublime (American Design) on 26 Varick, Tribeca 212-941-8888.
