The 2007 version of the Copenhagen International Furniture Fair, planned for 10-13 May this year, will, once again, be the setting for a new design event. Last year five designated designers were invited to present their renditions of “stimulating children’s furniture”. This time, five different designers have been assigned the task of making a piece of furniture convey integration.
According to the dictionary, integration means: to make a whole by bringing all parts together; to join with something else; to unify.
Whether these words can be linked with furniture remains to be seen. Nonetheless, that is the task that has been assigned to five designers of Danish and other ethnic origin in connection with this year’s Copenhagen International Furniture Fair to be held at Bella Center from 10-13 May. “’Integration Furniture’ is not a contest with a mandatory task for the participants. The task is to design a piece of furniture, where both the multicultural and integration come together as an expression in the designed pieces. It is going to be very exciting to see what the designers come up with”, says Director Keld Korsager from the Association of Danish Furniture Industries, which, together with Bella Center, is behind the design event.
All the participants are remunerated for their participation, and their names will be revealed when the results are announced publicly during the 2007 Copenhagen International Furniture Fair. The five submissions will be displayed as prototypes at the furniture fair, where a specially appointed jury will judge the submissions and select a winning piece.
Naturally, the winning piece will receive special attention and honours at the fair, but no money or other prizes will be awarded.
