2007 Taiwan International Design Competition

The speed of urban sprawl and the impassivity of urban residents grow hand in hand. The city itself is not the cause of the impassivity. The souls of the residents just stopped flexing after urbanization becomes a way of life. Under heavy pressure, the interaction between the residents and the surroundings has become less and less. Just think of yourself. How long have you not been stopping just to smell the flowers around you?

Amusement is an attitude toward life. It is with a fun angle when looking about life. The ease in playing itself is a value judgment which will thin the stuffiness of a busy modern life. Through a viewpoint of fun and interest, one can accumulate experience of life and the whole world in a totally different manner.

Freedom of beech :: Joris Laarman

Wood is a material that is very much alive. Nevertheless carpenters for centuries have tried to keep it as dead as possible. A waste of energy in my opinion. When Dutch furniture manufacturer Arco asked me to design a chair for the next 100 years of Arco I wanted to create something living, something logical and beautifull using the aspects of the material. Fresh white beech wood is notoriuos for its response to its environment like temperature or moist. These chairs in fact make use of these aspects in a positive way. They transform with age and live like their owners. In this way each chair gets it's own character.

flexible*love

...The name “FlexibleLove†was derived from the concept of a ‘flexible love-seat’ - seating that could hold from one to as many as sixteen individuals; changing length and shape with a simple pull at each end. A honeycomb structure, used throughtout the entire FlexibleLove line, produces an accordian-like result that allows each piece to be collapsed and extended with ease...

Carpet-lounge :: Felipe Zanardi

Thin Mdf boards attached with zippers, inside the "bags" at the carpet, become a retractable structure, easy to set up with Velcro ends. Your every day and under estimated carpet, might become the life of the party, when you push the coffee-table to the corner and set up your Carpet-lounge for your friends to chill out. Three back suports (armchair like angles) and two chaise-longues, your sofa is not enough!
