New Designers is unique in showcasing the work, talent and energy of Britain’s leading graduate designers and is the largest and most celebrated event of its kind in Europe. It attracts an audience of over 14,000 design hungry visitors, both consumers and trade. Held every July at the Business Design Centre and covering twenty design disciplines, New Designers is a pivotal event for the design industry.

Celebrating 21 years

In honour of New Designer's 21st anniversay, this year's New Designers will be opened by Rt Hon Gordon Brown MP on the preview evening on 28 June 2006. New Designers Part Two will be opened by Kevin McCloud on 5 July 2006.

The series consists of a cocktail table, nesting end table, and bench, combining the precision of minimal design with the beauty and feminine touch of nature.The pieces are available in four powder-coated colors or two real wood veneers. Briefing ::

1. SUBJECT:

- Design for a chair and/or table.

2. CONDITIONS:

- The main material used shall be Beech wood, Cherry wood or Walnut. Chairs may be upholstered to a greater or lesser extent, if considered appropriate, and veneered board or plywood may be used for the tables.

- The use of other materials such as metals, plastics, glass, etc. is allowed when complementary, structural or incidental to the above.

- All designs presented shall be new, not having been marketed or disclosed prior to the date of the Competition.

3. SPECIFICATIONS:

- Possible innovative features related to design, quality, technology, production processes, etc. and in general anything that adds value to the presented project.

- Possible adaptation to the product philosophy of Andreu World S.A.

- Production costs and/or recovery.

- Functionality: fulfilment of the functions for which it has been designed.

- All-round simple and viable mass production possibilities.

- Possible versatility and suitability for development in occasional pieces such as stools, easy chairs, sofas, etc. in the case of chairs, and of different sizes and heights in the case of tables.

- Suitability to numerous ambiences and uses such as the home, contract work, etc.
