Design Scoops :: 15 + 16 September 2007

Design Scoops is a new platform initiated by Natascha Drabbe of Cultural Connections
On Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 September 2007 she will present new work by ten creatives from divergent creative fields, ranging from architecture to jewelry and from fashion to food design. The objects have either not been publicly presented before or will be on view in Amsterdam for the first time during Inside Design.

Design Scoops gears towards informing media and design professionals on the latest developments in the design field. The keywords in this launch of Design Scoops are material innovation and imaginative design. Most products presented are marked by a textured, structured and tactile quality, and in most cases they capitalize on blurring the boundaries between art, design and architecture.

‘The Corner Tree’ :: Abhinav Dapke

‘The Corner Tree’ is placed at the corner of the room & shares the adjacent vertical faces of the walls of the room.
The zigzag & fluid form of this design is an interpretation of the growth of the tree. The spaces provided by this design can be enhanced with various mementos which mark the beautiful moments of the user’s life. The user can place the favorite mementoes such as photo frames, trophies or other collectibles on the tree. The form is very sculptural and conveys a strong aesthetic character while its white color suggests its timeless, classic, innocent, pure & peaceful nature. The Corner Tree can be developed with 20 mm plywood or medium density fiber board. Molded wooden strips can be used at the corner joints of the furniture. An alternative material option could be single molded composite fiber.

EL VAQUERO (THE COWBOY) :: Mauricio Lara

“El Vaquero†appears as a response of a creative exercise based on a social anti-cultural movement known as “contracultura†which rejects social values and stablished lifestyles. It also proposed other kind of values, merged on the market and massive media.

This piece is made from materials used on the building industry which are not very common on the furniture design, by re-interpretating them and giving them an original value that generates “anti-culture designâ€.

“El Vaquero†is a seat for reading that kind of popular literature which evoques you thickles, like: gossip magazzine, sensacionalist newspapper or even the “vaquero†comic book.

Once you seat on it, you will have those literature by your side, which will let you have fun and will also increase your “anti-cultureâ€.

Ceppo Chair :: Coscadesign

The stump, which comes from a tree section, shows on its surface many concentric rings that represent the natural growth of that part of wood.
Ceppo Chair is definitely inspired by this look at the nature and presents a structure thought as it was excavated in a tree trunk. The seat is made of wooden concentric rings, joined with resistant and flexible fiber. Despite the slight downfall while sitting, the customer is immediately going to feel the great comfort Ceppo Chair has been thought for.
