News from young Pompom Arkitekter

The young architecture- and designstudio Pompom Arkitekter from Halmstad, Sweden introduces two new prefabhouses; Puzzle House and Yard House. This is an continuation of the already existing collection of unique prefabhouse design launched last autumn.

Puzzle House is simple but clever to its sculptural shape, two L-formed pieces of house put on top of and towards each other. The result of the placing is a large roof terrace with connection to the masterbedroom and the office/tv-room. This also makes a roof covering of the entrance and carport to avoid rain when getting out of the car and in to the house...

Yard House is shaped as a "C" around a yard bringing a lot of light into the building yet without inviting gazes of curious neighbours. The yard can be used as a dining area...

"Louis XXI" :: Francesco Cappuccio

"Louis XXI" is an ironic coffee table derived from a process of deconstruction and reconstruction of a classical Louis XVI style. During the reconstruction process I left some small gap between each part in order to store the newspaper that we bay day by day. This coffee table-newspaper holder has won the international competition "A piece of furniture for reading places 2007" and will be exibit permanently at MAAM museum of Verona (Italy)

The jury record was ::

"a piece of furniture with a strong ironic connection to classicism in which an image with references to modern art is inserted and an original and functional solution is added"

The London Design Festival :: 15-25 September 2007

The London Design Festival is now in its fifth year and has become a fixture on the international creative calendar. With over 200 projects and audiences of 300,000 it has quickly become one of the most important design events in the world.

The Festival is an umbrella brand and works in partnership with a wide network of organisations and individuals. They range from museums and retailers, to educational institutes, creative businesses, trade shows, magazines, designers and international cities.

London's design scene has an unparalleled range of diverse contributors, and an extraordinay breadth and depth in comparison to other international cities - the Festival aims to mirror this unique eclecticism. Meanwhile, the number of international projects continues to grow, ensuring its global relevance and reputation.

Still a young event, the Festival continues to develop and evolve, creating new networks, stimulating growth in the sector, increasing the opportunities for trade, and enhancing the reputation of London and the UK as a place for creative excellence and innovation.

"interférences" :: Alexandre Moronnoz design

Project : « interfĂ©rences »

This urban bench is hesitant about flattening itself completely flush with the ground. Its lower surface undulates and interferes with the ground, affording only a few points of support. But its upper surface is level and orderly and can be used to rest a while before continuing one’s way in the hustle and bustle of the urban environment. Like a public space in motion, it oscillates between order and disorder, a balance generating creativity, conviviality and encounter : beauty within chaos.

The prize-winning item of Parckdesign 2007 competition was installed in the Florist’s Garden in Brussels, (www.parckdesign.be).

DĂ©jĂ -vu, project, 2006

...like a dream decomposes and recomposes; divides and reconstructs; transforms and distorts pieces of reality.

Vase Clos, project, 2005

A structure that does not limit itself to remaining static in its surrounding space. It has a necessity to interact. It is only through human interaction that "it" is able to express its authentic connotation. Twisting, adding, substracting, piece by piece... in constant change from a completely closed and hermetic shape... ... to a multi-leveled vase.

Realized in rapid prototyping, this vase has been showed in the "Model Ideas" exhibition, organised by Industreal for the Milan Furniture Fair.

The Meligoth cylinders, project, 2006

Vases that explore the narrative power of an elaborate detail applied on a banal shape.

I’m born in 1979 in Nantes, France. I studied industrial design at L’École de Design Nantes Atlantique where I graduated in 2003. My studies also include a scholarship exchange at the Faculty of Art and Design of the University of Lapland, Rovaniemi, Finland. I moved to Milan after my graduation and since then have been collaborating with George J. Sowden. My collaboration with George J. Sowden usually concern “industrial” design, that’s why, as an individual, I tend to design objects with much freedom. I design with my emotions more than with my brain and try to provoke things instead of resolving problems. My creations have roots in my interrogations/questioning, explorations, experimentations, my feelings, the mood of the day… Some of my work has been presented in exhibitions such as : “First Cuts” (Milano 2007), “Dream” (Milano, 2006), “Model Ideas” (Milano, 2005) or “European Way(s) of Life” (Paris, 2002).
